Component libraries
Every good design starts with the library: footprints, schematic symbols and 3D models determine how reliably the board can later be assembled, tested and integrated mechanically.
Why the library comes first
From a manufacturing point of view, the same chip exists several times over: pad geometries, paste mask and solder mask depend on your assembly technology. MHD therefore creates every component to suit your production. The library is built before the first symbol is placed in the schematic.
MHD maintains existing corporate libraries to your CAD guidelines; new components follow the IPC land pattern specifications.
Footprints and symbols
- Pad, paste, solder mask: designed for your assembly technology, whether reflow, wave or hand soldering
- Symbols with a system: legibly structured, pins grouped logically, named unambiguously
- Version-controlled and documented: your team can trace every revision and continue maintaining it
3D models and enclosure check
On request, every component receives a 3D STEP model, where available the exact manufacturer model. The result is a CAD representation of the finished board that lets you check mechanical compatibility with the enclosure and neighbouring modules before manufacturing.

Step 01 ends with a library that schematic and layout can build on safely, and that belongs to your team beyond the project.

Component libraries at MHD
The questions that come up most often in initial consultations about this step.
Will you carry on with our existing library?
Yes. MHD adopts your CAD guidelines and adds new components so that they fit into the existing stock. If there is no guideline yet, you receive a documented proposal as a starting point.
What specifications do new footprints follow?
They are based on the IPC land pattern specifications and adapted to your assembly technology: pad sizes, paste mask and solder mask are designed for your manufacturing process.
Do we own the libraries afterwards?
Yes. The version-controlled library is part of the handover and intended for reuse in your next projects.
Do you supply 3D models?
On request, yes: in STEP format and, where available, as the exact manufacturer model. This lets you check the finished board mechanically in its enclosure before anything is manufactured.
Do you consider discontinuations during component selection?
Yes. Lifecycle risks and second-source availability are part of the selection. Obsolescence management is one of the seminar topics Dr Häuser teaches at the FED (Fachverband Elektronik-Design e.V., the German electronics design association).
